Yahoo! Mail is a web-based email service that can be upgraded for an annual fee to allow POP access. Intermittent POP access is not uncommon and there can be a lag in time of several hours after you configure your Yahoo! account for POP before access via POP becomes active in your mail account. We suggest waiting at least four hours after you turn on POP access before assuming that it is not working and contacting Yahoo! for help.
What you will need:
- A Yahoo! Mail Plus account. If you have a regular Yahoo! Mail account, you can upgrade to Yahoo! Mail Plus for a fee. Get more information here.
- Turn on POP access in your Yahoo! Mail Plus account setup.
- Log in to your Yahoo! Mail Plus account on a desktop computer browser and ensure that the POP access option is enabled. This option is located under Mail Options in the Mail Delivery Status page.
- Your email account name and password.
- Your Windows Mobile Treo smartphone provisioned for internet access.
- Between 5 and 10 minutes of your time.
Troubleshooting:
- Not receiving mail? Make sure you have enabled POP access in your Yahoo! Mail Plus account. Please note, your account will not be POP enabled if you have selected the "Forwarding" option. Get more information here.
- If you are having problems sending mail, use Verizon’s server to send instead:
SMTP Server: smtp.vzwmail.net
Username: your 10-digit cellphone number followed by @vzwmail.net
Password: your password that you set up on the vtext.com webpage

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com (use authentication, optionally use port 587)

Setting up a Gmail account on your Treo smartphone
A Gmail account can be configured to behave as a POP3 account; in other words, you can use an email application rather than a web browser to get your mail. Gmail stores all of your email under 'All Mail.' You can use the labels and filters feature in Gmail to organize your mail, but all your messages will remain in 'All Mail.' Gmail labels are not recognized in POP email clients such as VersaMail. Learn more about using POP with Gmail.
What you will need:
- A Gmail account.
- Make sure you have enabled POP in your Gmail account: under 'Settings,' choose the Forwarding and Pop tab and select 'Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on.' Remember to save changes.
- Your email account name and password.
- Your Treo 700w smartphone provisioned for internet access.
- Between 5 and 10 minutes of your time.
Troubleshooting:
- Gmail users have reported getting an empty inbox when they download messages on their Treo smartphone. Subsequent syncs fail to download any messages. If this happens to you, log in to your Gmail account on a desktop computer and click on Settings. Click on the Forwarding and POP tab and select 'Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on.' Remember to save changes.

Setting up an AOL Mail account on your Treo smartphone
AOL now allows access to AOL Mail accounts via IMAP mail clients such as Outlook. AOL refers to this service as Open Mail Access. AOL Mail accounts are available nominally as IMAP accounts but do not support all IMAP features. AOL IMAP servers do not allow folders to be created or deleted in the root folder. You will see an Inbox, Sent Items, Saved, Spam, and Voicemail (if you subscribe to this service) folder. Mail deletion is controlled by you but also by AOL’s standard mail aging policies. Contact AOL support for current details of IMAP limitations.
What you will need:
- An AOL account.
- Your email account name and password.
- Your Treo 700w smartphone provisioned for internet access.
- Between 5 and 10 minutes of your time.
